Famous throughout the Principality (and far beyond it) as composer, conductor and adjudicator, he was for many years the BBC's principal music representative for Wales. The Mansel Thomas Trust was established in 1987 and its main objectives include the collecting and collating of all the composer's manuscripts and the copying and publication of most of those which are unpublished.
