The Talyllyn Railway is a narrow gauge line using steam locomotives on all advertised passenger trains. It was opened in 1865 and runs inland from Tywyn on the Mid Wales Coast to Nant Gwernol. The Vale of Rheidol Railway is one of the Great Little Trains of Wales, and was the last steam railway owned by British Rail until it was privatised in 1989. The VoR Railway runs for 11¾ miles from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge. The narrow-gauge Corris Railway ran from 1859 to 1948. Since 1966 the Society has worked to ensure that the railway would no longer be just a memory. In 1970 the Corris Railway Museum was opened, and in 2002 passenger services recommenced on the first section of rebuilt line. The Society also researches the history of the railway and district.
